self-reflection
What a thing, this self-reflection business...my principal and I had a pretty good laugh this morning about how useless self-reflection is when you don't have any idea where you're going. For example, in my case I'm not sure what's going to happen next year as far as my career is concerned. But teachers are often prompted to reflect on their practice, even on a daily basis...How well did this lesson go? What could I have done better to more effectively present this lesson? In my case, there is a possibility that I may be teaching sixth grade next year. Apparently at a small school, if you are amply endorsed (I have three endorsements: K-8 Elementary; 4-12 History; 4-12 English) , there may be the possibility of filling a void, should a void be created. Our sixth grade teacher is retiring and the administration is currently "weighing the options" which is precisely why I have felt unsatisfied with my attempts at self-reflection.
