Bakers on Toroda Creek, revisted

Well over a year ago, I made my last post on this blog. I love the idea of blogging...I just don't seem to have the discipline to follow through. But I'm not afraid to apologize and move on. So, sorry...to all my "follow"ers.

moving on...

The Bakers have made it to Toroda Creek...sort of. We moved into the green house at Browns Mill in April of 2008. It was a good thing too. I was able to work on the ranch a little more than I had the previous summer. I bought a tractor in July and put up a little hay, but not enough to feed all the cows...so we had to buy close to 20 ton of hay. I got up every morning and fed cows with Aunt Maureen. After we'd fed the hay we put up...we started feeding the big round bales we'd bought. It was quite comical...Maureen and I chaining those big bales to our truck...pulling them out into the field...trying to fight off the cows and the bull...and rolling them out for the cows to pick at. It was fun, though. And this winter we'll be feeding them again as the fields aren't producing as well as they should.

Recently, things have started heating up. All the owners of The Ranch are trying to form an LLC. They have asked Tera and I to step up and be the managers. We would be responsible for general upkeep, and for maintaining a herd of cattle (for property tax purposes). It is something I've wanted to do, but there isn't anywhere for us to live on the land. We, however, feel it is essential that we live on the land in order to manage it well. Also, Maureen doesn't want to live alone anymore. So we're in the process of looking for a nice used manufactured home to move onto the spot where Great Grandma Lena's house once stood. There is quite a bit of tension and fear amongst the owners, for some reason, and I look forward to having the LLC established and getting ourselves a comfortable place to call home.
