Joel's Son, Sam

I got an email today from my very, extremely good friend Joel Gillman, who resides in Bellingham. He's got a daughter (Maddie) and a son (Sam), who I knew when they were like four and six or five and seven. Well now Sam is eleven or twelve and he's an athlete...a runner like his dad, and a writer like his dad. Awesome runners and writers, both.

Joel sent me some of his son's writing about running and I wanted to post a couple of the lines that stood out to me, that resonated deeply. "When you are out in the forest you can actually feel what your life is worth." And, "The point I am try to get across is, no matter how hard you work during the boring day you always have time for a run."

Joel has always been a marvel to me and his son seems to be following in his path--wise, dedicated and inspiring.
