Ebb and Flow

The weather has been amazingly cool and wet...which, for a former "coastie" isn't that much to comprehend, but for just about everyone else up here, it's like succumbing to an enemy torture test! I'm not complaining. But I will say...we need it to dry up some before we cut any hay. Yesterday I took the baler out for her maiden voyage of the year, and I'm glad to report it went quite well. That's all I'm going to say about it at the moment. Because, no sooner had I baled up the eight rows of hay I'd cut on Monday, then the rains came and soaked all my nice little bales. They are still in the field as we speak, drying out all day in mid-60's with sporadic showers. Oh well. The barley is getting the kings ransom this year, HA!

Spent this afternoon replacing the bad bearing (thanks to Douglas Earl!) He came through using his master-of-the-universe-like skill with the cutting torch and removing the stubborn old bearing. With another neighbor's help, we replaced the old with the new and...now have the same problem...too much play in the Pitman arm. What are you going to do?

The joys of farming continue...
