Front Lawn

Alan and I (but mostly Alan) have been working, lately, on cultivating the ground between the house and Toroda Creek. Last May, I worked it up pretty good, but, because of the delay in getting the house on site, it was mostly for naught. Then, this spring we put the new disc to good use. Alan rode the tractor for a couple hours and got it broke up. He harrowed it with the four-wheeler and a section of drag harrow. Nicholas and Emma helped him pick up the big rocks. And lastly, Alan raked the entire yard by hand with his three-plus foot landscape rake. Today he spread the seed, hoping that the weather forecast was right as rain. And it was. I'm sitting here looking out my bedroom window at a light rain darkening the freshly planted earth. It's almost thrilling, definitely exciting, to think of the fun we'll have on that big lawn!

Hopefully this weekend the weather will clear long enough to disc up one of our two hay fields that need planting. The goal is to have them both planted in grain by the end of May! Wish us luck...
